Figs at the Market – a First

The Adriatic figs are ripening and so succulent. For the first time ever, I’ll have figs this Saturday at the Mt. Vernon Farmers Market. Who will be the lucky ones who get to take these home? How many will actually make it out of the market before being eaten?

Nothing says success like a nice head of cabbage. Cabbage is what lettuce dreams it could be.

It’s hard not to spend all day in the garden. At this time of year it is so full of life. Even the soil is so full of life it moves. I cleared a patch to plant more vegetables, and the soil constantly moved with earthworms, tiny centipedes, spiders, grubs, beetles, and tiny creatures swimming through it.
